Before You Leave Home
What to Bring
- Two Forms of Identification: Your primary ID must be a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license) with your name exactly matching your ISACA registration. Bring a second ID as backup.
- Confirmation Email: Have your exam appointment confirmation accessible on your phone or printed out.
- Comfort Items: A light jacket or sweater (testing rooms are often cold), and any approved medications.
What Not to Bring
You cannot bring personal items into the testing room. Leave these in your car or at home:
- Cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices
- Study materials, notes, or reference books
- Food and beverages (water may be restricted depending on the center)
- Bags, purses, and wallets (lockers are provided)
Arriving at the Testing Center
Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Late arrivals may be turned away and forfeit their exam fee. When you check in, you will:
- Present your identification documents
- Have your photo taken
- Store personal belongings in a provided locker
- Receive a brief orientation on testing center rules
- Be escorted to your testing station
The Testing Environment
The testing room contains individual workstations with computers, typically separated by partitions. You will be provided with a dry-erase board or scratch paper for notes. Cameras monitor the room continuously, and a proctor supervises the testing area.
During the Exam
The CISA exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions to be completed in four hours. Key points about the testing experience:
- Navigation: You can move forward and backward through questions, flag questions for review, and return to them later.
- Breaks: You may take unscheduled breaks, but the exam timer does not pause. Plan your breaks carefully.
- Calculator: An on-screen calculator is available if needed.

If you pass, you will receive instructions for completing the certification application, which requires demonstrating five years of relevant work experience.
